Who is this MasterClass for? Business owners, executives, managers, change experts, lean experts and consultants, production professionals, organizational developers, consultants. For anyone who wants to learn more about what makes time-oriented organization tick, what can be achieved with it in practice and how the transformation from volume production to time orientation works. In this format, Niels Pfläging will also discuss the real-world challenges that transformation to time orientation entails. ​

THE CONCEPT

Niels' MasterClass consists of four half-day online workshop sessions that will happen over the course of two weeks, guided and facilitated by Niels Pflaeging.
 

The online sessions serve the purpose of reflection and deepening your understanding. During the sessions, Niels will also provide additional conceptual input, share experience, stimulate questioning and facilitate the discussion. Total duration of the course's online sessions is 16 hours.

Course reading is essential to this MasterClass:

  • Reading the Time-Oriented Work Systems research paper and the Essays on Beta, Vol. 1 book is pre-requisites to participation.

  • The study of additional digital reading materials (articles & papers) ahead of each class is another pre-requisite.  Studying the additional course reading materials (articles & papers) will require at least 2 hours for each of the four sessions - somewhat more for the 1st session.

Character of the course Sessions

The four MasterClass sessions are based on iterative-discursive didactics, not lecturing! There will be no use of PowerPoint or videos during sessions, nor will there be lecturing by Niels during any part of the MasterClass.

 

CONTENT STRUCTURE during the 4 online sessions

  • Focus day 1: Rhythm, Flow and Time-Orientation – We will discuss the various roots and the history of Time-Oriented Work Systems - including Toyota and other BetaCodex cases

  • Focus day 2. Distinctions & connections - We will charter distinctions, concepts and theories that are essential and helpful for time-oriented thinking, and necessary for Lean practice that deserves the name (including consistent self-organization, decentralization, relative performance systems and organizational democracy)

  • Focus day 3. Change & transformation – We will reflect on the nature of transformational change, on manifold organizational development method, structure, and required elements, and on learning on different levels

  • Focus day 4. Tools, practices, patterns – We will debate how to judge tools and methods, in the context of time-orientation; we may also touch upon further topics close to the participants' hearts in this session

YOUR PREPARATION

Studying the course reading materials is a prerequisite to participation. We will provide exciting, high-impact articles & papers to participants ahead of the sessions.

Upon registration, participants will receive print copies of the Time-Oriented Work Systems research paper and Niels' book Essays on Beta, Vol. 1. Both are included in the participation fee. Research paper and book must be read prior to the first MasterClass session. You will receive additional digital reading material for study prior to the four online sessions.

A 10% discount applies for 2 or more participants from the same organization.

Included in the fee: Participation in four half-day online sessions; 1 print book and 1 print booklet (research paper) for pre-course reading. You will also receive additional digital pre-course reading material (articles).
