Cell Structure Design is a social technology for organizations of all kinds and all sizes, created and published in 2019, by Silke Hermann and Niels Pflaeging of Red42. Even though Cell Structure Design is quite new, its history reaches way back - to Socio-Technical Systems research of the 1970s at least. In their field work, Silke and Niels alone have developed Cell Structure Designs with dozens of corporate clients, over the course of 20 years.
Cell Structure Design is the world's leading approach for building an organization around value creation - instead of building it around functions, departments, processes or "leaders". It is the only organization design approach that's capable of bringing about a consistently decentralized and self-organized structure - with highly autonomous, market-oriented teams in the periphery and the center.

Silke and Niels have pioneered Cell Structure Design for well over a decade. Their 1st publication on the topic dates back to 2008, when Niels then wrote two BetaCodex white papers on how to Turn Your Company Outside-In!, Different versions of the paper attracted over 80.000 readers so far.
In 2011, Silke & Niels wrote another related paper together – their 1st joint publication: The hit paper OrgPhysics. Explained elaborated further on the role of Value Creation Structure. In 2019, with plenty of client practice around Cell Structure Design, Red42 published Cell Structure Design as an open source social technology.
